Current Hyperfixation: Wizard of Oz

  • He/Him

I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

Check tags like Star Trek Archive and Media Piracy to find things I share for others.

but honestly it makes a lot of sense if you put yourself in the shoes of the average Trek fan in the 70s. The only times you've ever seen the Enterprise at all have been the grainy image on your little CRT television (which might not have even been in color) and cheap plastic toys that were probably painted with lead. You learned of The Motion Picture thanks to a TV spot that was equally as fuzzy on your television, and buy tickets to go see Star Trek on the big screen for the first time.

It would genuinely be the first time you had ever been able to see the Enterprise in such sharp quality with such minute detail. Even if you were lucky enough to see an original episode projected from film or gone to see the TOS model on display on some tour somewhere, none of that really compares to how it appears in the film. I think it as a worthwhile moment to let sink in, given that context.
